The Park also consists of five volcanoes which include Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Gahinga, Muhabura and Bisoke thus for any birder who will also want to do hiking, the Park is ideal for the activity too.
Nyungwe Forest National Park is inclusive among the best destinations in Rwanda ideal for birding activity because it protects over 275 bird species which provide a brilliant view to the birders, the Park is 7 hours drive from Kigali city. Birders in this Park will also enjoy other activities including chimpanzee tracking which is the most activity in the Park plus a view to other animals such as golden monkey, red-tailed monkey, silver monkey, L’Hoest’s monkeys and many others. Lake Kivu which is along the way from or to the is made up good lodges for the birders and chimpanzee trekkers to live in and these include Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, Paradise Malahinde Guest House among others.
Giswhati Forest Reserve is also a good destination for birders which is found in the North western parts of Rwanda. It is a reserved forest which protects over 84 bird species including the Wood hoopoes, White headed Wood hoopoe, old world warblers and Mountain yellow warbler. Though the reserve is small, you will still have a sight to chimpanzees which are believed to be over 20 chimpanzees. Other animals you are most likely to see in Gishwati forest include blue monkey, golden monkey, L’Hoest’s monkeys, toads, frogs, chameleons, Red River hog, black-fronted duiker and the great lakes bush vipers plus many others.
